Photo Gallery: Drigung Kagyü Mystical Music and Dance of Tibet Monks Tour

In 1998 the Drigung Kagyü Office undertook a year long world tour of Drigung Kagyü monks, who performed religious dance, music, chöd, and Vairocana deity sign language. We started off with 15 Drigung monks from Jangchubling Monastery in Dehra Dun.

Our first performance was staged in Kuala Lumpur, and from there we flew to the United States in January 1999. We were later joined by Drongtul Tenzin Nyima Rinpoche and his attendant from Tibet.

We travelled in two 15 seater GM vans and performed for nine months in the United States and Canada covering 113,000 kilometers by road. The highlights of our tour of the United States were our participation in the Woodstock and the Tibetan Freedom Concert in 1999.

Bongtul Tenzin Nyima Rinpoche, Rinpoche's attendant, Karma Tsultrim, and Jampal Dorje could not continue the tour, and the rest of us proceeded on to the European leg of our tour covering cities in Italy, Slovenia, Germany, Estonia, Latvia, Spain and Switzerland.

Our tour was a great success as, I believe, we, together, helped to accentuate the name of the teachings of Kyobpa Jigten Sumgön on the world map of Buddha Dharma. Equally important, we had so much fun together.
